Materials You Will Need

Step 1: Hot Glue Craft Foam Circles to Headband
Use the acrylic sphere halves to trace out two circles on the 4mm craft foam. Cut these circles out of the foam and these will be the bases of the headphone ear pads. To determine how far down to glue the circles I put the headband on and measured where it fell over my ears. Mine are glued 2in from the bottom of the headband with my hot glue gun. Step 4: Cut and Assemble Foam Ears
Using the printable pattern cut out four copies of either the bear or cat ear shapes from the 4mm craft foam, and then cut two 3/4in strips from the 4mm foam as well. Using contact cement glue the ears together as shown below. Step 7: Glue Gems to Headphones
My gems had a little bit of weight to them so I laid the headphones flat on a table and used E6000 to glue the gems to the foam, then let it dry overnight. Step 8: Add the LED Tape to the Headphones
The final Step is to use the LED tape on the headphones. The LED strip I got was very easy to apply, you basically just needed to remove the backing and you could stick it right onto the headphones! You can see there is a wire hanging off the right ear which you will need to leave so you can connect it to the battery pack that comes with the strips. I like to tuck the battery away within my wig to hide it. Step 10: Show off Your Headphones!
I wanted to make sure to show my Bear Ear headphones I made for Nozomi as well in this tutorial, since I included these ears with my attached pattern in addition to the cat ones. The process for these was exactly the same as the cat ears, and when you are done you just simply tuck the battery pack into the wig and use the remote to turn on the lights! |
Step 2: Paint the Inside of the Acrylic Sphere Halves
Use masking tape to separate the sphere into four sections, then swirl acrylic paint within each section. I found that this way it prevents brush strokes, but it does take a while to dry. I left mine on top of my paint drawer to keep it in place while drying. Step 3: Glue Acrylic Sphere to Foam Circle
This step is pretty straight forward, just take more hot glue and glue the foam circle to the inside of the acrylic sphere half. Don't worry if you have a little excess glue around the edges, because we will be adding the LED strip over this later. Step 5: Glue Ears to Headband
Place the headband on a wig head, and hot glue the ears on. You may need to fill some smaller gaps in with more hot glue later. I made sure to mark the center of my headband to to make sure I spaced my ears out evenly. This will be covered with electrical tape later so do not worry about this line showing right now. Step 6: Paint Teardrop Gems to Match your Acrylic Spheres
This part is just acrylic paint over the gems and sealed with mod podge. Step 9: Trim the LED Tape and Apply Black Masking Tape
Once you finish adding the LED tape around the headphones cut the excess off. Depending on the tape you get it may have different instructions, but for mins as long as you cut it in the center of the copper bubbles as shown it worked perfectly. If you are at all nervous about it I'd recommend cutting it a little longer than needed and verifying that it still worked as expected. Once the LED tape is cut to length I finished the headphones off by adding some black mechanical tape to break up any part that wasnt the cat ears or the ear pads. |
